Stephen Barlow, MBA, CFA
SPECIAL ADVISOR
Stephen served as Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Barlow Capital from its founding until his retirement from active engagement in July 2008. Although he holds no formal office or responsibilities Stephen continues to work closely in a general advisory capacity with the professionals who have assumed leadership at the firm that bears his name.
His experience from both the academic and business worlds is a valuable asset to the firm's management and portfolio managers. His unique combination of leadership skills, investment knowledge and practical business acumen come from principal experience in the following areas:
- Owning and managing an investment counselling practice for high net worth individuals for 20 years.
- Designing and implementing investment strategies for a First Nations Tribal Council, a Community Foundation, and a Public Trustee.
- Planning, organizing, and presenting seminars on investment management.
- Teaching finance and investment management courses at several Universities.
- Providing advice to the Department of Finance regarding investment policy for Pension Funds and fiduciary responsibility.
- Prior to founding Barlow Capital Management Inc., Stephen was Dean of the Williams School of Business and Economics at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec. He is also the former National Partner-in-charge of the Investment Advisory Services group within KPMG LLP.
Stephen earned his MBA from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario in 1974 and a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Allison University in 1968. He is a CFA Charterholder and a member of CFA Institute, Charlottesville, Virginia, as well as a member of the Montreal, Vancouver and Victoria CFA Societies.
